Explore the Glow Wild light trail at Wakehurst

Wakehurst Botanical Gardens are a sister site to London’s famous Kew Gardens. Every winter, they put on a spectacular light show which I cannot recommend highly enough.

When darkness falls, the gardens come to life with a range of amazing installations and interactive visual experiences.

The show normally runs from the end of November to the start of January and they also put on relaxed and quiet sessions for those who prefer this. Wakehurst is a 30-minute drive from Brighton. It is more difficult to get here without a car but is definitely worth the drive if you have access to a vehicle.

Sip mulled wine at Hove’s Beach Hut Open Evening

Once a year, the owners of Hove’s iconic beach huts open them up to the public. A traditional Christmas event, they decorate the huts festively and, once the sun goes down, share drinks and treats with visitors. This is a truly magical evening. It normally takes place in late December but keep an eye on local Facebook groups for the date.

Go Ice Skating at the Royal Pavillion

In winter, Brighton’s breathtaking Royal Pavillion gets an upgrade with a large ice rink installed in the garden. Test your balance on the ice and have fun skating in the open air.

The rink normally opens at the end of October and runs until January. This is, hands down, one of the best things to do in Brighton in winter.

Play Carnival Games at Globalls

Globalls in Brighton Marina is best known for its glow-in-the-dark mini golf, but it also has a lesser-known activity – carnival games. This glow-in-the-dark room is full of circus-style games and challenges, from Hook–a–Duck to strength testing.

It’s very affordable, with tickets starting from around £8. You can also get an alcoholic slushie to take on the course with you, if that’s your kind of thing.
